The designs of Belgian designer Maarten van Severen are often described as minimalist. However, minimalism as a form has interested him rather less but has always been the result of a long design process. With the ".07" swivel chair, Vitra now presents one of the last completed designs by Maarten van Severen, who died prematurely in 2005 at the age of only 49. His design is the result of a careful examination of the material leather, whose visual and tactile qualities had long excited him. The .07 chair has a raised backrest, which gives it a prestigious character. This is also evident in the design formulation of the seat: a comfortably upholstered, flexible construction covered with a high-quality cowhide replaces the plastic shell here. Note the striking open seams, which bring out the quality of the material used and the contrast between the soft, matte surface of the leather and its rough interior. The interplay of the leather upholstery and the chrome-plated base underscores the value of this swivel chair, with the functional-technical aspects receding into the background. For example, the bridge underneath the seat hardly appears conspicuous because of its black powder coating, into which a micro-mechanism has been integrated for improved seating comfort. Thanks to its restrained serious style, the swivel chair .07 cuts a fine figure in the executive office as well as in the meeting or reception area.
