9. "More Rules for Modern Life" - ECAL exhibition

WHAT: "It's Only Furniture!" reads the catalog for the "More Rules for Modern Life" exhibition at Lausanne's ECAL design and art academy. As much as one would like to ascribe a higher meaning or a cultural significance to furniture - in the end, it remains nothing more than objects on which one sits, lies down, and moves back and forth. The 29 designs by the design students are not quite as simple as this statement. They oscillate between exuberant Memphis style and Scandinavian minimalism.

WHEN: Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

WHERE: Spazio Orso 16, Via dell'Orso 16, 20121 Milan

Walking in Memphis: vase "Washi" by Yohanna Rieckhoff, coffee table "Clastic" by Iskander Guetta and tatami "Tapisse" by Marie Cornil.

WHAT: Marcel Wanders, Patricia Urquiola, Atelier Oï, Nendo, the Campana brothers, Raw Edges and now, as of this year, India Mahdavi and Tokjin Yoshioka. The list of names for the Objet Nomades collection reads like a who's who of the design world. At this year's Salone, Louis Vuitton is now presenting ten new designs. This brings the collection, inspired by adventure and travel, to a total of 25 pieces.
