ARKET x KG Nilson

Advertising | Co-operations between designers and brands are nothing unusual, now there are more and more collaborations with artists also outside the fashion sector in the field of interior. With the series "Nordic Stories" Arket launches in collaboration with the Swedish artist KG Nilson the limited interior as well as fashion collection "Colours". The special collection consists of, among other things, wool blankets, pillowcases as well as a fashion line of colorful Bucketheads on shirts as well as shirts and sweaters.

Painter and graphic designer KG Nilson was born in Falun, Sweden in 1942. Nilson's colorful and graphic works are also known beyond Sweden's borders and have been exhibited in London and Dresden, among other places. The play with colors and shapes sometimes reminds us of the local artist Hilma af Klint. In einem kurzen Interview haben wir Nilson ein paar Fragen zu seiner Arbeit und zur Kooperation mit ARKET gestellt, die wir hier mit euch teilen.

1. Mister Nilson, you are the kick off of the series 'Nordic Stories‘ by Arket. What unites nordic art in your opinion?

Nordic art often has a clear focus towards nature, and the nature is very much present in the Nordics – both geographically and with our changing of seasons.

2. Do you have a favorite colour?

Blue is frequent but in combination with green or yellow-brown like as the colour of islands or surrounding vegetation.

3. When I see your work, I see and feel an overpower of blue, is this a subjective observation?

Maybe blue is the dominating colour.

4. You are well known for your art and compositions and a hero for a lot of artists, did you still have idols?

One artist that has been important in my artistry career is Josef Albers (1888-1976). I met him in his home in New Haven (US) and I’ve also translated his book “Interaction of color” to Swedish. Other artists I’ve been interested in is Kandinsky, Klee and Mondrian.

5. Are you listening to music when you paint and if yes, which one?

I prefer liste to baroque music, Arvo Pärt and Miles Davis.

6. What inspires you the most?

A difficult question to answer. It can be a colour combination I’ve seen, maybe a detail. A painting can develop into many different ways and to explore all of these is a challenge.
