Axel Einar Hjorth's summer house furniture has been in hot demand since 1932

He brought modernity to Sweden - with summer house furniture made of pine wood. Axel Einar Hjorth's series "Utö" and "Lovö" have enjoyed great popularity since 1932.

Axel Einar Hjorth in AD Lexicon

"His style was radical yet neoclassical. I have that in common with him."

Pierre Yovanovitch, interior designer

To this day, hardly any design lexicon mentions his name. Yet Axel Einar Hjorth, who headed the furniture design department at Nordiska Kompaniet from 1927 to 1938, even designed Sweden's Barcelona Pavilion and a luxury train for the Shah of Persia. In the meantime, however, his "Utö" and "Lovö" series, of all things, have become highly sought-after by interior luminaries such as Pierre Yovanovitch and Rose Uniacke: rustic, simple summer house furniture made of pine wood.

"Hjorth's influence is very much underestimated."

Arthur Floss, Quittenbaum Auction House
