Play of colors and cast shadows
Baskets, lamps and mats woven from bamboo strips are part of the object culture especially where bamboo grows: in Asia. But even there, bamboo has recently had image problems and has had to hold its own against plastic in particular. Now young designers are rediscovering the natural material with all its phenomenal talents - from resistance to price to weight. Japanese designer Ryosuke Fukusada teamed up with Portuguese Rui Pereira for his lighting collection, taking cues from the design of traditional Asian baskets. The stand version for the table was even equipped with the typical carrying handle. However, the designers complement the proven recipe with a pinch of contemporary. Parts of the shade are woven from foil, which allows the light between the wicker shade to become a play of colors. The lamps are handmade by a workshop in Kyoto, Japan, which specializes in small everyday objects. tp
