Braided Horse Dance
The Kuda Lumping is a traditional Javanese dance that shows the ride of a group of soldiers. In the choreography, the men hold a flat horse made of rattan between their legs, which is integrated into the movement sequences. Alvin Tjitrowirjo runs his studio in Java, but is far removed from the traditions of his island in Jakarta. In his projects, he seeks to combine indigenous craftsmanship, traditional stories and modern design. The rocking horse Lumping is made of rattan, like the inspirational puppets, but woven over a smaller and three-dimensional frame. With gently curved lines, handle ears and the pied natural dress, it becomes a skillful cuteness for the nursery - and can be ridden outside weatherproof. tp
