Natural materials meet clear shapes - the designs of the designer duo Schneid are inspired by everyday life, travel and nature. For AD, Julia Mülling and Niklas Jessen are among the 50 best designers in Germany.

If the studio is located "zu Lübeck", in a city that looks out to sea and north, the proximity to Scandinavian design is almost self-explanatory. Only since 2012 Julia Mülling and Niklas Jessen - together they are "Schneid" - design sustainable, colorful furniture and lamps, reduced and from natural materials: Their "Junit" lamp made of lacquered ash guides us on the right course even beyond midsummer night: north-northeast.

AD: What or who has influenced you the most in the way you work?
Julia Mülling and Niklas Jessen: We are mainly influenced by our environment, in daily life and while traveling. Architecture, craftsmanship and modern art are our sources of inspiration, along with nature. Our way of working is influenced by various experiences: the education as a carpenter, the study of architecture and the study of art and literature.
What material do you work with most often?
We use natural materials in combination with striking colors and clear shapes. We work mainly with wood, metal, ceramics and stone.
How would you describe your style?
Minimalist, expressive, with striking color schemes. And responsible!
