The Living Light collection by Byok

Pendant light Piani Lungo

Kai Byok belongs to the exclusive circle of absolute lighting specialists. A great love of design can be seen in his lights. But especially in terms of lighting function, they often tread new dimensions. The luminaires of the Living Light collection, designed for private use, combine clear timeless shapes with innovative technology and practical functionality.

Kai Byok learned his design craft in Milan at the renowned Scuola Politecnica di Design. But he founded his company, as befits a Hanseatic, in the far north. Here, in Rellingen, Schleswig-Holstein, the designer and his team have been designing, developing and producing high-quality, sophisticated luminaires for the home and contract sector since 1996. Dedicated to the Italian design philosophy, Byok is responsible for all of the company's designs to this day. Over the years, a design language without an expiration date has emerged that characterizes above all the luminaires of the Living Light collection for living spaces: products of timeless aesthetics and simple elegance that do not follow trends, but are the result of formal stringency and function-oriented design.

Synthesis and counterpoint: Barrone
In an almost exemplary manner, Barrone corresponds to the design ideals of its master: its stem is reminiscent of a simple column and its head is also based on a simple, round basic form. Angular elements such as the head stem attachment or the stem base provide an exciting contrast. As always with Byok, however, the luminaire form also follows the lighting function: as a synthesis of standing and reading light, there are individually switchable and dimmable LEDs at both ends of the swiveling head, so that precisely directed reading light and pleasant room lighting are possible at the same time.

Pendant lamp Nastro

Variable construction: Nastro
The principle of form follows function that has become light takes Nastro to the extreme. The pendant luminaire is designed as a variable construction and can take on a wide variety of shapes according to the desired light pattern. Its seven aluminum profiles, connected by current-carrying swivel joints, can be flexibly arranged in rows, allowing countless arrangements from a straight line to a heptagon. The entire structure is supported almost invisibly by four copper-braided cables and can even be tilted if necessary.

Floating shape: Piani Lungo
As if weightless, Piani Lungo also floats in space. Supported by a filigree silver-plated copper mesh, the pendant luminaire is a prime example of timeless and simple design: a rectangle with rounded corners - a shape abstracted from stadium architecture. And as if from a stadium floodlight, tables are homogeneously illuminated to every angle with a flat light pattern. Like almost every luminaire from Byok, Piani Lungo is equipped with gesture control and Dim2warm technology. The luminaire can thus also be conveniently switched on and off as well as dimmed by a light sensor with a swipe movement of the hand. In addition, the technology makes it possible to reproduce warm color temperatures even at reduced light intensity, creating a pleasant atmosphere in the room even at low brightness.

Luminaire Ricurvo

Multiple light images: Ricurvo
As an absolute multi-talent shows Ricurvo. With its indirect, separately switchable uplight and downlight, this elegant wall luminaire offers a wide range of options for creating the atmosphere of a room. In addition to the infinitely variable brightness, colored plastic filters can be used temporarily or permanently to adjust the light pattern and ambience to personal preferences. At the same time, the luminaire itself, which consists of a single manufactured part, is an eye-catcher. It combines a gently curved arc shape with clear contours.

Luminaire Fino

Simplicity and elegance: Fino
Gentle curves and clear edges also characterize the design of Fino. The table lamp thus exudes Byok's characteristic formal simplicity and timeless elegance. A subtle design feature here is the fabric-covered cable woven into the base. The purist style of the lamp is also underlined by the slender shade cylinder - but here, too, form follows function, and so the shade not only produces a glare-free, downward direct light, but also bathes the room in a warm, flattering uplight through its shimmering top cover.
