The Leather Museum Offenbach celebrates its 100th birthday. To mark the anniversary, the exhibition "Leder.Welt.Geschichte" shows outstanding collection items - all made of leather, of course - and tells their story.

An Egyptian rawhide vessel from the 4th millennium BC is the oldest exhibit in the exhibition. One of the youngest is the leather headphones (2014). DLM/C. Perl-Appl
Whether Goethe's hat box or the shoes of Austrian Empress Elisabeth - numerous exhibits at the German Leather Museum in Offenbach are more than examples of the highest craftsmanship - they tell history. On the occasion of its 100th anniversary, the Leather Museum is presenting its anniversary show entitled "Leather.World.History" until February 25. On approximately 600 square meters, the house shows an exemplary cross-section of the leather collection with about 130 objects. Despite all the history, the makers are trying to present their treasures in a contemporary way and are relying on exciting cross-references between the works. Thus, the oldest exhibit, an Egyptian rawhide vessel, meets one of the latest acquisitions: a pair of leather-covered headphones by Master & Dynamic.
Reunited at last: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's top hat box is displayed next to the slippers of Ulrike von Levetzow, Goethe's last (unrequited) love.
Geometric play of forms: Ladies' handbag and forearm bag by Josef Hoffmann from the Wiener Werkstätten.
